Issue #19: The Body

The material structure of an organism, either living or dead; governed by an array of biological processes. This is the body as we know it—a mediator between the ‘natural world’ and how it is experienced. Similarly, the body is rarely detached from its social environment—or the body politic. How should we concern ourselves with the unique social ground from which ideas about the body and bodily practices are produced? How does the body become a site of pleasure, care, and resistance, but also one of pain, exploitation, and domination? Therefore, we invite submissions for the 2024/25 edition of Tvergastein that relate to the prompt “The Body.” Whether a reflection, discussion, and/or a critique, we would like your take on the bodies that shape life on this planet. As this is an interdisciplinary journal, we warmly welcome all approaches, from academic to artistic; the natural sciences to the humanities. We only ask that your piece relates to the prompt.

The deadline to submit your work is November 15th, 2024!

Tvergastein accepts submissions in two categories: Shorter op-ed pieces (2,000 - 5,000 characters including spaces) and longer articles (10,000 - 20,000 characters including spaces), in either English or Norwegian. Submissions in other languages could potentially be accepted - please simply send a request to the team. References must be in Chicago 17 author-date style.
We also welcome artwork, photos and poems.
